And the total COST all these 3 campaigns equaling up to only $1,776 dollars.
 
So taking the total revenue... minus the total cost... that equals $8,494 dollars in profit for the first month of acquiring these  clients.

But it gets even better... 

Because I didn't need to keep paying for advertising cost the next months afterword to keep getting this revenue - because these clients pay monthly... 

...so after the month the clients were acquired, that’s a profit of $10,270 dollars per month...

Obviously some clients will drop off for various reasons so that's we keep using our YouTube ads to get new clients as well...

(over the last 14 months of acquiring these clients alone they generate a total combined revenue of for myself and company of $90,606).

I then stumbled upon a dating advice ebook from David Deangelo (also known as Eben Pagan) which lead me into the discovery of ”self help” with the first and biggest mentor being Tony Robbins.

Then Tony Robbins did an interview with Jeff Walker where he was talking about this new online revolution to create and sell information products and services.

And seeing how the information products that I consumed so far were massive in helping me transform my life to be a bit better...

...and realizing that I could create my own information product, I wanted to do that...

...and make more than a living out of it… and have more freedom to do what I wanted, when I wanted...
Starting Off...

I told a few other classmates to go to the site to buy it - and a few went to the site, but no one bought…

So first BIGGEST LESSON that I realized was I had to have compelling sales copy to actually sell the product effectively ...

-and then of course quickly LEARNING the SECOND BIGGEST LESSON that I actually need to get people to the site (also known as “traffic”).  
  So I Did Just That,

So first BIGGEST LESSON that I realized was I had to have compelling sales copy to actually sell the product effectively ...

So I Pushed Past My Fear And Introverted Self To Make
 A YouTube Video On The Topic, To Get More Traffic...
This video generated SOME traffic & sales… 
  
But the flood of consistent traffic I was looking for still didn’t come... and I still needed more traffic…

So I started experimenting with YouTube ads linking to this video.

Using YouTube ads didn’t work nearly as well as I thought it would (and didn’t know 1/100th of what I know about YouTube ads now) - but it still worked the BEST out of all the other traffic sources I was testing.

Overall the market of “how to become a radiographer” was too small, so I put the business up on flippa.com and sold it for $901 dollars and was ready to move on.
I Then Realized A "Famous" Internet Marketing Guru
That I Followed Lived Only 
2 ½ Hours Away...
So I drove across the state (Michigan) to his office.

I was so nervous I drove around his office a few times "cooling" off my nerves.

I went up to his front door of his office.

Knock, Knock, Knock...

His office manager answered the door and I said, "Hi, I'm Mike Piet and I have experience creating information products and online marketing, here's my resume, and I'd like a job here if you guys are ever hiring."

He said "okay... thanks."

And I walked away...

I didn’t hear back from him for 6 months - until his office manger called and said "we want to do an interview with you." 
I Did The Interview And Shortly Afterwards 
They Called Me Back And Offered Me The Job 
- I Happily Took It 
I moved across the state and began working right away. 

Throughout the next two years I spent working and helping on various projects, from affiliate management, to technical set up of email autoresponders, banner ads, and YouTube marketing.

...and while working with him he even did a whole case study using YouTube ads to sell a dating product - which as super amazing to practice and learn from.

...and he even did a whole case study on my first radiography business - because I explained to him how I set up this YouTube video and it was still making sales on autopilot to the day...

That was all a great experience which I will always be grateful for and learned a ton (some of the greatest lessons being to really master marketing and systems).

...but overall I knew I needed my own business for countless reasons instead of simply being just an “employee” - so we parted ways…. 
So My Next Business Was 
“How To Write A Book” 
Information Product
...I figured since I struggled so much writing a book, most likely a lot of other people must struggle with that as well, that I can help with and get paid for as well...
 
So I made the product on how I wrote my first book, came up with a pen name of “Alex Albright” (because back in the day pen names where all the rage).
- and then made a YouTube video to promote the product.

...but still the amount of views, traffic, and sales were too small and not growing fast enough for just organic efforts...

- so I set up YouTube ads once again

...and the market here was much bigger which was great, and I made a few thousand dollars, but the YouTube ads were just not profitable at scale as I wanted and needed...
And with this business overall the audience I was attracting was more interested in how to write a fiction book (with stories and characters) - which I only knew and wanted to teach about how to create informational “how-to” books...
 
- so the audience was NOT an exact match (although looking back I was most likely targeting the wrong exact audience)

- so at this point, I knew I needed to move on to the next thing, once again.
I sold this business for $5,000 dollars and it opened up "space" for my next "thing"...
Then I Even Sold Some ADHD Affiliate Products 
I figured since I have trouble focusing at times, and used a natural focus product that worked for me, that I could sell it as an affiliate and get paid some commission....

So I made a YouTube video on the topic selling the supplements (under the pen name “Frank Fizer”)

Then set up some YouTube ads to it.

...and made "some" money...

...And once again learned some more things about YouTube ads...

...but it was still NOT enough money to even support myself each month consistently with the basic necessity bills... 
At This Point I Didn’t 
Know What I Would Do... 
I was broke living paycheck to paycheck. Frustrated.  Depressed once again. 

A girl that I was dating, when we we go out to eat somewhere, I'd say I'm not hungry because I actually couldn't afford the dinner...

Or when she was over at my place, and I didn't have any napkins because I couldn't afford them so she had to use toilet paper...

And it's been 4 months of taking mind-numbing splintering ice cold showers since I didn't have any hot water, because another roommate that I was living with, was gone for the summer and didn't pay the water bill, and I know I couldn't afford the water bill to get the hot water turned back on...

Well I didn't have much to lose...

...and had a sense I could be on to something here...
So Since My Videos WERE Not Converting Well Enough
- I Decided To Ask For FEEDBACK On My Videos From Others 
And to my surprise I got way more feedback that I expected - that could be USED to greatly improve the video. 

I’d ask some other business friends what they thought of the videos, what they liked and what they didn’t like and think could be improved.

I’d also ask my other business friends and would get some amazing insights, such as;
  •  Tell stories of past clients
  •  Need more direct call to action
  •  To be less technical and keep it much more simple
  •  Use metaphors to make it simple, etc.
But, 
I kept hearing How So Many People Grew Their Business From...
 YOUTUBE

It just seemed to be a common theme I kept hearing...

So I knew there had to be something there, but making the videos all the time just didn’t seem to work as predictability, and scale fast enough....

I knew their has to be a way with YouTube ads... 

I’ve gotten pretty close... and knew the power of YouTube ads... 

- so I really committed and put my head down and told myself "I'll figure it out no matter what..." to crack the YouTube-ads-profitable-at-scale code...

And as I spent the time thinking how to make these ads profitable...
- something came up that Brain Tracy once said...
"feedback is the 
breakfast of champions"
 It sounded corny at first...

But I knew my ads weren't converting as well as I needed... 

So I needed the FEEDBACK of WHY...

And another lesson I remember hearing from Eben Pagan "communication is NOT what you say, it's about what the other person hears."

I said "I think I'm being super clear - and I used all the "marketing" techniques I've learned throughout the years in the video so I'm sure it's influential and good. .."

"I mean I'm sure... there may be some things that could be improved... "
"...but would they really make a difference...? "

Then I stopped using face shots to save time...

- so I had to start documenting all the RIGHT CRITICAL elements in the previous videos, so I could then use and combine it with what worked well in the past as well...

Because when you start making a lot of these, believe it or not, but it’s hard to remember all the things needed to be done that make a good video work...

Think about a movie that is 2 hours long but takes 6 months to 3 years to create (remember there's more too it than meets the eye)

And I keep repeating this process, getting more and more actionable video-improving feedback, such as; 
  •  Like screenshots too small to read
  •  Be more specific 
  •  Have better experience on mobile viewing
  •  Tonality too intense

Overtime I had to figure out the correct TARGETING...

The adwords system to target is very interesting, it seems easy, but if is very complex (like all these elements)...  

...for example, what you set as the targeting, doesn’t always work as it should...  

Bottom line; without the right targeting, it doesn’t matter how good the ad or anything else is.

- so I had to consistently test what type of targeting works best, and what doesn’t.
And I didn’t just set up the video with the 
correct targeting and it worked right away…
It took an insane amount of learning and refinement with in each targeting method.

I had to learn and figure out how to constantly refine it to be profitable and not make the camping lose money as a while because showing to the wrong people that don't convert well enough...

Such as...
  • KEYWORD CLEAN UP: excluding keywords that the ad was showing for that were not relevant or converting well enough...
  •  VIDEO PLACEMENT CLEAN UP: removing videos that we’re not a total alignment where my customers would be, and just spending money without any results...
  •  AUDIENCE TESTING:  different type of audiences to target, which ones actually worked and which ones didn’t
  •  DEMOGRAPHIC COMBINATION TESTING: And demographics, for whatever reason, with each targeting method, certain age groups, gender, parental status, or income level would convert at different rates and costs - so had to run the ad long enough to see what worked, and stop what wasn’t working...
And I needed 
higher conversion rates of people 
filling out the form to meet Once 
They Landed On This Site...
As I finally got narrowed in on the right targeting...

...and the right video to effectively communicate the offer influentially I started getting clicks...

...but still NOT enough people where filling out the form at the rate I needed to still get the leads cheap enough to make the campaign profitable to be able to scale...

...so I had to figure out and improve the landing page (AKA "funnel")

...to get a higher percent to take action and fill out the form...

The YouTube Ads Were
Actually Working “Too Well” - And I Got Completely Overwhelmed...
Actually generating TOO MANY leads and clients that I could handle...

- I would of NEVER thought this could happen. 

How could this happen?

After working so hard for this goal, and then getting it and being even worse off than I started...

I always used to think "that as long as I was "making the money"" I could handle any workload...

But that wasn't the case anymore...

As more leads came in, I got more clients, made more money ...but then the workload keep piling up, I had to be the lead generation person, sales person, than fulfillment. 
It was very 
stressful and painful 
to say the least...
It was so sad and messed up - I left the traditional job world to have more free time and money potential, but as I got more clients, it seemed like I just had 10 jobs... and I was capped out...

So.. soon enough I had to put the YOUTUBE ads on PAUSE... 

Because I couldn't handle any more clients or leads... 

Yes I still wanted more to make more money ...but I couldn't handle it any more, I was overwhelmed and almost at my breaking point.

So I knew what I had to do... and what "everyone" told me to do...
Hire Someone!
"Have them help me the workload, even do it all" yes that will free up my time for sure" I thought to myself...

...and then I would get my time back be able to make money, and "scale" the business by getting more clients and having others do the work, not me...

So I hired two people pretty fast.

I gave instructions what to do, showed examples, etc. 

- then they said they "got it" 

- I said "great!" - and left.

...and I came back to check in a few days later...

"Hey, how's it going?" I asked.

....

But I didn't head for them in a bit...

So feeling too excited with anticipation to see the work they've done so far that I had to check out their work done so far...
But that feeling quickly turned into shock, anger, discus, resentment...
Coming back to the task delegated, and seeing it all messed up, not even close to how it needed to be... 

...and NOT only did it NOT just look the same...

 - it looked EVEN WORSE and heading in the wrong direction ...with now even MORE WORK needed to fix it...

...so by hiring others, I not only actually lost more time by training and teaching, and the work going in wrong direction ...needing me to spend more time to fix it...

- but also losing money because all the hours I paid them, to go in the wrong direction...

And the more I tried to teach, explain, be nice, etc. ...none of that seemed to work to make any monumental or lasting change to get the work done correctly...

But as I studied more about business, it came apparent that it was NOT the person's "fault"...
 it was the "system's" Fault
- to why my business wasn't working how I wanted it to...

..there was no structure, procedures, organization, predictability... 

- everything was all over the place so to speak - resulting in too much chaos and horrible work...

So the business had to be what we call "systematized"

- meaning written document procedure on steps, but also overall principles because steps alone change in context, and there's need to be organization, accounting, checking in place, etc.

- so I went on another 3 year journey of ups and downs figuring out what this whole "system" thing is, and how to do it... 

And after reading all the (surprising few) systems thinkers before me, I eventually created my own process to "system my business" 

- making the business more streamlined and simple to manage and scale 

- so the business could survive and thrive without me even having to be there... 
I Eventually Ended Up Systematizing 4 Core Systems Of My Business
#1: The Lead Generation System.

Having a perdurable consistent system to consistently generate leads at a affordable rate.

#2: Sales system

Turning the qualified leads into high monthly paying customers

#3: Fulfillment system

To predictably and affordably and profitably create happy raving fan customers by generating the results I promised to the customers that they invested in me to deliver the first place.

$4: Overall system and hiring

Having a system in place to manage all the systems going from a few key main metrics, down to specific metrics - how all the systems work together, etc. - and of course finding. hiring, and keeping the right people to help manage and run these systems.
All in all, 
making these systems 
so they deliver results predictably, profitably, 
And then hiring and teaching to MY OWN STAFF to run these systems "for me" - so the business didn't soley rely on me...

And really learning how to teach someone else to use a proven system that I documented, and then build those lessons "how to learn and use it" into the system ...

- so all I would need to do is show someone a link where to start training to use the system - and the system would teach them everything they needed to know, from high level concepts and principles, to specific actions and organization, tracking, etc.

- and at any time,  I could at any point view key metrics of the system and know how it's been performing and how things are going from the top to bottom as deep as I wanted, and quick as I wanted, so I was always in the loop but also free to do other things I needed and wanted to do...

The YouTube Ads Were
Actually Working “Too Well” - And I Got Completely Overwhelmed...

- and at any time,  I could at any point view key metrics of the system and know how it's been performing and how things are going from the top to bottom as deep as I wanted, and quick as I wanted, so I was always in the loop but also free to do other things I needed and wanted to do...

It wasn't until I Has All These Core "systems" Where In Place That I could Scale My Business To Make The Money I Wanted AND Have The Time Freedom

So now I had the ultimate combination of what I went into business in the first place - more money, and more time freedom
 - and of course helping a lot of others in a super impactful way.

I was only needed in my business from 80 hours a week - to about 5 hours a week...
